Sunday - June 16

A Real Workout!

I think most of us worked too hard yesterday, biking, hiking, windsurfing on big gear, or even golfing.  No one was very energetic this morning.  We started off at Bette's as usual  Even though it was obviously very windy, it took us until almost 11:00am to finish breakfast, go to safeway to get something for lunch, and drive the sort distance to the Hatchery.

Of course, the best sailing was before we got there.  Kent was first out, as usual and got in some of the best sailing of the day in his first session.

The wind was shifting directions and quite gusty, making sailing a workout.  I think everyone got out, but it was a workout - of course Ross, Andreas and Kent made it look easy.

Kent and Mike P discussing the politics of sailing...

Big Air Jim practicing his falls in every direction.

Blaine - Stretching out!

Kent

Kent - showing us how it's done.

Big Air Jim
Kent and Harold won the title for most time on the water.

Big Jim had an adventure when his boom became unhooked.  He ended up swimming to Swell City and walking back.  We were looking all over the river for him when he walked back to the parking area.  We were much more worried than he was - he said no danger, just a long swim.  The team s"Man DownAlarm system" was a little slow since we did not notice Jim was missing until he had already washed up at Swell City, so by then he was nowhere to be found.

Mike

Mike - nice Chop Hop.

Mike - relaxed.

Blaine - Chop Hop

Blaine - Roster Tail

Andreas split the day between kiting and windsurfing.  Rene and I struggled a bit today, and found ourselves either on equipment that was too big, or to small - for the conditions.  When you are not "balanced", you tire out very quickly.

I spent the latter part of the day shooting video and taking photos.
Handre was very fast - as usual

Harold - total control
Several times, it looked like the wind was done for the day, but it built up again.  Kent says some of the best sailing of the day was at the end of the day between 5:00 and 6:00.

Big Air Jim says he was practicing his falling, and managed to perfect the technique in all four quadrants.   Left, Right, Forward over the handlebars and Backwards - onto his ass.  By the end of the day, he really felt he had it nailed.

Karen took a kiting lesson.  She said it was a great lesson, but she was very tired after the two and a half hours.  She even got up on her board.

John had a great day on a 4.2m sail.  His smallest ever along with 116l board which was also the smallest ever.  Later he even got to watch some of the pro's doing their loops and other tricks.

Lazelle did another 100km bike ride today.  I hear the wind was very strong - almost blowing her off the bike at one point.

I think we were all exhausted by the end of the day.

Harold made a point of staying up until 9:00 before he went to bed.  The rest of us weren't far behind.

Looking forward to more sailing tomorrow.
